Celebrant Weddings

We have a network of caring & professionally trained celebrants throughout the Country

The Fellowship of Professional Celebrants (FPC) was officially founded by Terri Shanks in January 2011. Terri had already, by this time, been training both Funeral and Marriage Celebrants for more than 3 years. Her vision was to provide ongoing structure, support and networking for those she had trained within a safe, ethical and friendly environment.

The foundations of the FPC lay not only in our high standards but in those core values and ethics which stand firmly at the centre of our organisation today.

Everybody wants to have the ‘wedding of their dreams’ and on most occasions, everything is planned down to the last letter. Often the most imporant part is forgotten, the content and the words of the ceremony itself.

Weddings and Civil Partnerships

Did you know that your wedding or civil partnership ceremony can be held anywhere that is special to you and that you don’t have to be restricted to only using approved venues?

Your relationship is unique, there is no other relationship like it.  As two independent people coming together in their own special way, wouldn’t you like a Ceremony that truly expresses your love and commitment to each other in a totally unique, personalised and meaningful way? Why settle for something that feels like a mass produced, impersonal wedding?

Each ceremony is individually written for each couple and will be totally unique.

We can help you write your vows to one another, selecting appropriate music and readings while including symbolic elements which reflect your love and commitment to one another on your special day.

Including Children

It is not uncommon these days for people to have children before they marry, or to be taking on their partners children from a previous marriage or relationship. You may like to include your children within the ceremony, either by them contributing some form of spoken or musical tribute if they are old enough, or by adding your commitments to them as you become a new family.

You may want your ceremony to be totally non-religious, or you may want to include some form of religious content such as a Hymn, Prayer or Blessing. There are no restrictions, so the choice is totally yours. Some ceremonies are between couples of mixed faiths and therefore the ceremony can be a blending of more than one religion.

Marrying Abroad

Many couples these days choose to marry abroad, but still like to have a blessing in front of their family and friends on their return to the UK. By choosing a celebrant to conduct this blessing, your ceremony can take place in any location, and can either be of a religious or secular nature.

Renewing Your Vows

Many couples like to renew their vows to mark a special anniversary, 25, 40, 50 years for example. But you can renew your marriage vows at any time. It might be after just one year or after 75, it may be to re-affirm your love for one another after challenging times or a period of separation.

Our Celebrants will work with you to create a beautiful ceremony to celebrate the past, the present and the future of your marriage. There are no legalities required to renewing your wedding vows, so the location of the ceremony can be held anywhere, either inside or outside (subject to weather!)

How often have you been to a wedding where Bridesmaids sit down throughout the entire ceremony and all you get to see is the back of the Bride and Grooms heads??

As part of the planning of your perfect day, our celebrants will help you stage your wedding to fit the location ensuring that you are able to get the very best photographs and video of the ceremony.

A rehearsal will always be held with the bridal party (at the location if logistically possible) a day or two before the ceremony, where we will guide you through every stage of the ceremony including the entrance procession and the recessional exit.

In 1994 The laws in the United Kingdom changed, allowing other licensed venues other than registry offices to be used for civil marriage ceremonies. More recently, many of these venues have subsequently been licensed for registrars to also perform the legalities of a Civil Partnership Agreement. However, the content of the ceremony remains pretty much unchanged and this type of Marriage or Civil Partnership Service can often be uninspiring and lack the pomp and flair that many couple rightly feel their relationship deserves.

What is not so commonly known or understood in this country – is that ONLY the Declaratory Words, and the Contracting Words have to be said in a Registry Office or licenced venue in order for your marriage to be recognised in law and for a marriage certificate to be issued.

Declaratory Words

“I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I (your name) may not be joined in matrimony to (partners name)”

Contracting Words

“I call upon these persons here present to witness that I (your name) do take thee (partners name) to be my lawful wedded wife (or husband)”

These words are the only legal requirements for marriage, as well as formally identifying yourselves to the registrar and signing the marriage/civil partnership register in front of two independent witnesses and a registrar.

This wording will vary slightly for couples forming a Civil Partnership.

The rest of the service, including the exchanging of rings and saying of vows to one another is purely ceremonial and can therefore take place literally ANYWHERE and at any time of the day or night – you are limited only by your imagination.

It may be a simple ceremony in your home or garden, or at sunset on the beach with the waves crashing around you, a local beauty spot, or in the middle of a bluebell wood…or something more glamorous in a stylish country houses or hotel.

Our celebrants take great pride in their work and it gives them real joy to be part of creating a perfect day for you.

Our professionally trained celebrants offer an open minded, stress-free service to create your perfect ceremony. They will work closely with you as a couple to fully adapt to whatever feeling or mood you want to create with your ceremony. It could be relaxed, formal, classic, adventurous or a mixture of everything! But it will be a ceremony which captures your love, your life, your journey together so far, and your aspirations for the future.
